For Finalists
Information for Finalists
For In Person Interviews:
You should arrive at your interview location promptly (generally 8:30 a.m.) for a 9:00 a.m. reception with the Panelists and the other Finalists. You will be given the time for your interview at the close of the reception. You should plan to stay until 5:30 p.m. in the event that the Panel wishes to call you for a second interview. Arrival and departure times for some panels differ; check Regional Review Panels for scheduled times.
The listing of Finalists shows their e-mail addresses. You might want to contact other Finalists being interviewed with you. Many of you probably have similar values and concerns. For most of you, the Truman Scholars Association will sponsor a dinner the night before to allow you to get to know your fellow Finalists. Panelists do not attend.
You do not need to bring any materials to your interview. You will be asked to provide a recent photo and biography prior to your interview. The photo should be a passport-sized head shot, minimum size of 2' x 2' to maximum size of 3' x 5', approximately 75 dpi. The photo should be of you alone; do not upload group photos. Do not upload out-of-date or otherwise unsuitable photos. Your biography should be a short paragraph (four or five sentences). You may wish to refer to the biographies of the current class of Scholars as examples. The Foundation will post this photo and biography on its website in the event of your selection as a Truman Scholar.
Remember to bring a photo ID with you to the interviews. Many of the panels are held in federal buildings and you will need an ID to enter and go through security.
This information as well as other guidance will be sent to you via email before your interview. Be sure to review these emails and contact your advisor with any questions.
During my interview, I remember saying 'no' when asked if I would ever run for office. This program reshaped what I thought was possible & helped me get to where I am today.
