Kelsey, who has been a public health advocate since being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 7, has raised $55,000 for diabetes research, founded a diabetes advocacy organization at American University, and served as director of the Student Government health department. She has also been an intern for a member of the U.S. Congress and for the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, Ohio. She plans to advocate for policy changes to address factors that impact health such as nutrition, discrimination, and access to health care.
